Remediation Plus has perfected its
own reading, spelling and writing
system honouring the available scientific
information! The system draws on
training from a famous U.S. School,
the study of language curriculums
from other successful U.S. schools
that treat dyslexia, the implementation
of theories developed and researched
by Harvard (Dr. Gordon Sherman),
Yale (Dr. Sally Shaywitz), OISE
(Dr. Keith Stanovich), Dr. Louisa
Moats, “Reading is rocket science!”,
Dr. Joseph Torgensen’s research,
and the work of Dr. Reid Lyon, head
of the National Institute of Health.
He and his team of researchers have
stipulated “how to teach people
how to read” through the ongoing
study of 36,000 students over nine
years.

literacy gap in students of all

Three instruction videos or 5 CD
ROMS will allow teachers to learn
how to analyze reading and spelling
problems, and as a direct result,
learn to deliver the appropriate
lesson plans in the Remediation
Plus System. Students move up two
to four years in spelling grades
in as little as six months when
attending twice-a-week as well as
two to three years in reading...sometimes
more!

As the president of Remediation
Plus, I have walked the journey
of a parent looking for the right
help and watched the emotional devastation
of an intelligent child who fell
further and further behind his peers
due to a difficulty with language.
After attending the Gow School and
finding out about research-based
reading programmes, I remain aghast
at the rarity of the implementation
of this work as well as committed
to its dissemination. In 1996, I
formed a charity and a school whose
mission was to deliver “the” work.
As the project grew, educational
rhetoric soon replaced science –
it was a lesson learned.
In 1999, I formed Remediation Plus
and have worked incessantly with
my team to develop a programme based
on research that would help children
and adults alike, that was rigid,
effective, structured, cumulative,
multisensory and cognitive.
I care deeply about reading and
feel passionate about circumventing
philosophies that are entrenched
but wrong.
